This site will be the hub to all of the other content that we put together, but before I get to that, lets talk about what that means and what you can expect to see from us here.

The purpose of this site is to teach and provide a resource for everything elctrical power systems, from how a power system operates to the details of relays, protection, metering, industrial power system design and more.

The seed of this site was the fact that there is a lot of sales information and beginner information available online today, but once you spend a little time scratching the surface there isn't a lot more that you can get with out on the job training.

The reason that I am starting this today (or really on November 1, 2023) is based on a conversation with a colleague about 'industry practices' that have been out of date since the late 1900s and are still being taught today. Like turning your head away when operating a switch, even when wearing PPE [*].

Couple that with designers still not taking advantage of SCADA and telemetry information that is available with the equipment they are installing, or clients designing contracts that don't include all the configuration that is needed to properly set up the proection and control system.

This first year or so will focus on developing a base understanding of how a power system is designed using contemporay equipment and start to form a basis as to why the design should be evolving from the systems that were designed in the 20th century.

From there we will have a firm footing to start to get into the various IT/OT controls, system operation, paths for modernization, etc. Basically everything that Smart Grid promised when I graduated from University so many years ago.

How to stay involved

I haven't set up any social media accounts yet, that will be coming. Like I mentioned above, this is the hub of the system, so everything will be posted here.

There is an RSS feed for all of the posts and there is a newsletter that will automatically send a weekly post of all the articles that we publish.

In time we will likely supplement that newsletter with additional commentary like a weekly industry roundup or something similar and you will be invited to subscribe there too. Newsletters are great, but we already get so much email that I don't want to add to it, so a single summary is probably where it will stay.

How to get in touch

Since we don't have any socials, yet, the best way to get in touch is the contact page or by hitting reply on any of the emails that we send out.

How are we making money?

Not sure yet. At first we're self-funded and we have plans to start a youtube channel, that will allow us to make some money with advertising, but other than that it will depend on you and what you are interested in.

I don't plan to do any sponsored posts as one of the content categories that we have on the roadmap is equpiment and system reviews, and we value your privacy so we don't plan to add any advertising networks to the site.

After a couple months we will evaluate the response and may go a membership route, sell courses or webinars. In any event, the people that are supporting us with shares, advice, comments, questions, etc will help us to make these decisions.

I'm excited to do this, and I hope you sub to the RSS or newsletter and join us for this adventure.

You should be facing the arc flash source to ensure that the PPE is able to do its job.
